I've just finished writing a bi-yearly research update report. Six months or so reading, writing, experimentation and thinking suddenly seems to be an amorphous collection of information, ideas, musings and possible plans. Let's hope it shakes down over the next six months into a thesis proposal and concrete Way Forward. Or maybe life doesn't work like that...?

“You've got to find a problem that is big enough to be worth solving, but small enough to solve”. I wanted to share this quote as it has particularly inspired me whilst I have been deciding on my research focus.

Please pledge to write a blog about inspiring women in science and technology on March 24. From 'Finding Ada; site: "Ada Lovelace Day is an international day of blogging (videologging, podcasting, comic drawing etc.!) to draw attention to the achievements of women in technology and science. Women’s contributions often go unacknowledged, their innovations seldom mentioned, their faces rarely recognised. We want you to tell the world about these unsung heroines, whatever they do. It doesn’t matter how new or old your blog is, what gender you are, what language you blog in, or what you normally blog about – everyone is invited. Just sign the pledge below (click ‘pledge’ after you have completed the reCaptcha) and publish your blog post any time on Wednesday 24th March 2010." Pledge here: http://findingada.com/

I'm currently reviewing my first week's progress. I have really enjoyed starting my new research project. This week I have planned the timetable for my research and I am very much looking forward to the coming weeks. I think a key factor in this excitement is that I am so interested in this research area and can see the clear benefit of the project for not only the University Library but also other fellow researchers. I have been made most welcome by the staff at the University Library. Keep updated with my full progress on the esther@arcadia or on twitter @arcadiaesther
