How many people have thought about Enterprise as a viable career option? I'm in quite an industrial group and there is a huge amount of effort focused on enterprise and links with industry.

I've also noticed that there are an increasing amount of support resources online to help you consider your options. For example, the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship has a well stocked resource library. http://www.flyingstartonline.com/public/announcements

Has anybody else noticed an increased focus on enterprise and commercialisation at their university?

I also found that there was a lot of advice in the 'Technology Transfer Office', sometimes called the Knowledge Transfer Office in other universities. They offered a lot of advice on intellectual property, trademarks, patents etc. which is especially useful for scientific spin-outs.

Personally I found my knowledge transfer office to be quite inaccessible. I would like some more information but they seem so busy looking after established academics with bigger ideas than helping me with my more embryonic but just as good ideas.

In June Flying Start is running a free workshop called Futurising, which aims to be an action packed 2 - 6 hour event to help graduates get started in Entrepreneurship.

The Shell-live wire resources for start ups and new businesses are another good place for postgraduates to find and share information about starting their own enterprise.

Each month they run a grand ideas competition which awards a total of £4000 to 4 new ideas. There is more information on their website at http://www.shell-livewire.org/.

Ostrich or Ninja? That is the question posed in the recent Flying Start Newsletter advertising a series of free Enterprise Webinars. If you are a 'ninja' you will spring in to action and sign up says the email.

Following the debate in the careers forum about the potential benefit of reading careers stories to assist with your own decision making, here are some useful case studies of graduate enterprise taken from the FlyingStart resources: http://www.flyingstartonline.com/casestudies
