I'm doing a professional MSc so I'm actually working and writing up at the same time.
In fact, I may well end up getting a new, higher-pressure job before my hand-in deadline!
Does anyone have any good tips for finishing off a thesis?

Nearly one year later and I wonder how you are getting on in your 'higher-pressure' job (and what exactly you meant by that). As well, do you have any good tips to share, recalling our final days in write-up?

I guess the issues here are very similar to ones faced by part time researchers. I've read a bit about the part time research experience and I think one of the key messages and tips is to try and stay in contact with other students / academics to stop you feeling isolated which can really sap your motivation.

Interestingly I'm doing a Masters part-time and just starting my dissertation. As I'm doing something different from the rest of the group, I'm starting to feel isolated? Is there anywhere I could look to find other researchers in my area? All suggestions welcome.....!

Just one month to submit now and I am in a very bad place. Had two mid-way slumps, but never thought I would get one so close to the end. So close now, but absolutely zero enthusiasm. Sounds mad, but I have just got to the stage I hardly care. After such a long slog that sounds bad, but that is honestly how I feel. Hope someone out there has the solution.

After a very long PhD journey with a couple breaks along the way, I have finally submitted my thesis (just before I ran out of time). Phew, what a relief. In the end I was working flat out all day every day but it was enjoyable in its own peculiar way. There were times that I really thought I would not finish it but I looked at it from the point of view that a really hard slog to the deadline would be worth it to be able to submit and prove to myself that I could achieve what I set out to do.
I am now waiting to hear when my Viva exam is going to be - so still a way to go but I now feel that I am getting there.

Congratulations - it feels good! In terms of the viva, do you have a date yet? I found the most useful tip to put my mind at rest was to make sure I read the most recent papers from my external examiner - it made me feel a lot more relaxed.
